Fuelled up and back into the ring.

I recently went back to boxing after some time out with an unfortunate shoulder injury. Anybody who has boxed before knows that your fitness levels will drop after a very short amount of time (in my case, I notice the difference even after a week out of action). To help get my strength and endurance up again, I’ve been going hard in the gym (5 days a week) plus boxing drills and sparring 3 days a week.

In addition to my usual supplements (Whey protein, Kre-Alkalyn, and ZMA), I was tempted to try an intra workout formula to see if it would help me squeeze those evtra few reps till failure, and those extra few rounds on the heavy bag. I was pleased to have been given the opportunity to try some of Maxinutrition’s FuelMax drink, the reviews online seemed good so I got a 750g carton of the Orange flavour to see what all the fuss was about.

Pre-Intra-Post workout formula.

In actual fact FuelMax is a pre-intra-post workout drink and contains carbohydrate-electrolyte ingredients which enhances the absorption of water during physical exercise and maintains performance during prolonged endurance exercise – in a nutshell it would give me that much needed boost of energy to help me dig a bit deeper, and hopefully allow me to keep my guard up in later rounds avoiding some incoming haymakers.

Recommended Usage

Drink FuelMax 750g All in One Energy Drink before, during and after intense exertion. Drink before, during and after intense exertion. Consume up to 6 servings per day.
Before (hypotonic): Mix ½ scoop (17.5g) in 400ml water.
During (isotonic): Mix 1 scoop (35g) in 500ml water.
After (hypertonic): Mix 2 scoops (70g) in 500ml water.

The FuelMax powder arrived in a sealed carton (quite a big one, but nomatter) – under the screw lid there was a foil seal to keep the contents dry and hygeinic. Inside the carton the powder looks very fine and dry, which always makes for an easy mix with no lumpy bits. Maxinutrition include a 35gram scoop (equal to 1 serving of FuelMax) with quite a long handle which is handy. Equipped with my shaker (contianing 500ml of water) I went about mixing my first batch. I think I shook it for about 40 seconds until it started to fizz and froth at the top a bit, maybe I’m too used to knocking the lumps out of my protein shakes and overdid it a bit, but it didnt detract from the taste so I went with it. So in all it was really easy to mix up and came out looking a bit like “Sunny D” – but obvs a lot better for my body. To taste the Orange flavour is as expected, smooth and quenching, actually quite more-ish so I need to remeber to sip (not gulp) during exercise. I would be happy to drink the FuelMax formula as a regular drink……Awesome!

Verdict:

The FuelMax formula performed as good as I had expected. It mixed really well, tasted really good, but most importantly gave me that extra bit of hydration and energy I was looking for when I would have normally been really flagging. Don’t get me wrong, I still had to work really hard to get through my drills but I think that the FuelMax drink was far better than sipping water and I re-hydrated far quicker after exercise than without it. A tub of 750grams is currently £19.99 (Order over £40 for free UK delivery) which is an average price to pay for this amount of intra workout and given that it works really well, I will be sterring my gym buddies to give it a try for sure. I just wanted to throw this in here too….this stuff works really well as a hangover cure (but without the boxing drills)….just sayin!
